Nancy Garner – bio
As of April 30, 2012, Nancy has been certified as an Indiana Certified Recovery Specialist, with a mental health specialty – which allows her to assist peers that share a mental health diagnosis, assisting them with self-determined goals in their recovery.
Earlier in her life she graduated from Coatesville Hospital School of Nursing (1978) receiving a RN diploma, received a BA in Social Science with a major in Psychology from IUS (2004), and an Associate degree in Paralegal Studies from U of L (2007).
Nancy has resided in Indiana since 1988, but was born and raised in Pennsylvania where her family remains today.
Her passion for helping others is reflected in her work in the community where she participated in a community kitchen serving from 2005 to 2008, Jesus Cares at Exit Zero, a homeless outreach in Jeffersonville Indiana, serving in her church, assisting individuals with Social Security disability issues, and formerly helping children with ADHD with reading concentration when in her teen years.
Nancy’s life journey has taken her through a mental illness diagnosis of Disassociate Identify Disorder, (formally known as Multiple Personality Disorder), newly diagnosed Mild Aspersers, and Seasonal Affective Disorder, Depression, Borderline Personality Disorder. Through counseling, Dialectic Behavior Therapy, support groups including NAMI and SOAR(Survivors of Abuse Restored), membership and involvement in church, Prayer and her personal relationship with Christ, Nancy is traveling into recovery with integration of the DID and wholeness. As such, her chief desire is to use her life experiences to reach out and minister to others especially in the Mental Health field walking beside her peers the walk she has walked and is walking in recovery.
